Mafube Business Forum (MBF) is privileged to announce that Mr. Izak van der Merwe has joined its management team.
Izak was born in Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia), and grew up in Limpopo - a true African. He is a humble, religious family man, husband, father and proud grandfather. From childhood, he developed many "boer-maak-'n-plan" skills that were the foundation for his remarkable career in technology and innovation.
Frikkie Meyer High School in Thabazimbi was Izak's Alma Mater. Tertiary, Izak obtained a BSc in Industrial Engineering at Tuks. After graduation, he studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and UNISA in the fields of, among others: Acquired Business Management, Marketing, Finance, Technology and Innovation qualifications. During his career, Izak was very active and closely involved with institutions such as Vodacom, the CSIR, the Atomic Energy Board, Sasol and Eskom. He lives to learn, and uses problems that life throws his way as opportunities for knowledge building, growth and development.
Izak is still involved in projects and contracts in the following fields: Communication; Bio-energy; Renewable energy; Community Development; Infrastructure developments; Facility Management and Banking Systems.
Izak's professional career consists of consulting and practical application. He was responsible for establishing a consultancy program at the CSIR with the aim of improving the competitiveness of the South African manufacturing industry and held the position of managing director at a plant that produced goods for the construction industry.
As part of a team, he was instrumental in establishing national manufacturing advisory councils across South Africa. Izak has won contracts in Ghana and the Middle East for consulting services in the fields of research and development and manufacturing. He has advised several countries, such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, at provincial and national government level regarding industry strategies and has given guidence to provincial government departments.
Izak recently settled in Mafube and decided to start walking a path with MBF, because he agrees with the vision of the organization. He believes that MBF is taking the first steps on a path that will soon be followed by many other municipalities. The exciting new developments in the Mafube region are the perfect breeding ground for Izak's innovative character and personality.
