VAAL DAM RESERVOIR OPVANGSGEBIED FORUM / VAAL DAM RESERVOIR CATCHMENT FORUM


[Afr] Op Donderdag 28 November het die Vaaldam Reservoir Opvangsgebiedforum (VDRCF) sy finale vergadering vir 2024 by die Departement van Water en Sanitasie (DWS) konferensiefasiliteite by Deneysville gehou. Die Forum is meer as 20 jaar gelede ingevolge die Nasionale Waterwet gestig om voorsiening te maak vir openbare deelname onder watergebruik- en ander belanghebbendes van die Vaalrivier-opvanggebied, wat strek vanaf Standerton en Memel tot by die Vaaldam; asook die Wilgerivier vanaf Frankfort.



Die VDRCF fokus hoofsaaklik op volhoubaarheid, beskikbaarheid en kwaliteit van water vir gemeenskappe, nywerhede en landbou in die streek. Dit word noukeurig gemonitor en aanbevelings van die Forum gee inligting oor besluitneming deur die opvanggebiedbestuursowerheid binne DWS.

Tydens die vergadering het mnr. Fred van Zyl, een van Suid-Afrika se voorste kundiges oor geïntegreerde hulpbronbestuur, ‘n aanbieding gedoen oor die onderwerp en 'n paar onvergeetlike, wyse woorde oorgedra. Fred het die behoefte aan “beyonders” beklemtoon, om te verseker dat ons volhoubaarheid-, beskikbaarheid- en kwaliteit doelwitte bereik en gehandhaaf word.

[Eng] On Thursday 28th November, the Vaal Dam Reservoir Catchment Forum (VDRCF) held its final meeting for 2024, at the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) conference facilities at Deneysville. The Forum was established over 20 years ago in terms of the National Water Act to provide for public participation among water use- and other stakeholder of the Vaal River catchment area, stretching from Standerton and Memel to the Vaal Dam; as well as the Wilge River from Frankfort.



The VDRCF focus primarily on sustainability, availability and quality of water to communities, industry and agriculture in the region. This is closely monitored and recommendations from the Forum, inform decision making by the catchment management authority within DWS.

During the meeting, Mr. Fred van Zyl, one of South Africa’s leading experts on integrated resource management, presented on the subject and imparted some memorable wise words. Fred reiterated the need for “beyonders” to ensure that our sustainability, availability and quality goals are reached and maintained.

Dr. Len Dekker followed with a fascinating presentation on innovative technology implemented at Goldi’s poultry processing plant near Standerton to reduce water consumption, minimise waste and prevent pollution of our water sources.
